Best Wireless Plan Options for Teens

Best Wireless Plan Options for Teens

mytouch android phoneAbout a month ago, I was looking for the best wireless plan options that offered unlimited texting for my daughter.  A smartphone was something she had been asking for all year.  Since her existing contract wasn’t up yet, it didn’t make financial sense for us to pay the penalty of canceling it just to upgrade her phone.  Instead, we opted to get a fairly inexpensive smartphone (the MyTouch pictured here, which retails for $149) and the Walmart Family Mobile plan.  It runs $40 per month, and came highly recommended by the Mommysavers Forum Members.  We have absolutely no regrets, and would also recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap wireless plan.  We love that we can cancel anytime, so there are no long-term commitments.  You can transfer your existing phone number if you wish, and add additional lines at a reduced price.

My daughter LOVES her smartphone, which was somewhat surprising since she had been saving her money for the more expensive iPhone 5.  I really thought she would still want to get an iPhone, since that’s what most of her friends have. She recently told me, “I don’t mind this phone.  I think I’ll save my money and skip buying the iPhone for now.”  What’s nice about the plan is that you can use any phone with it.  Bring in your own phone or buy one at Walmart.  Since texting is what she uses her phone for most, this option definitely fits the bill for us, financially-speaking and otherwise.
