DIY: Make Your Own Vaseline

December 12, 2012 by Kim Danger Leave a Comment

As the name suggests, petroleum jelly is a byproduct of oil production.  For that reason, you may want to avoid using it on your body and opt for a toxin-free alternative.  The version below can help hydrate and protect your skin without the health risks.

Ingredients:

1/4 C. coconut oil
1/8 C. extra virgin olive oil
1/8 C. castor oil
2 Tbsp. beeswax (these beeswax pastilles are so much easier to work with)
1 Tbsp. lanolin
1 tsp. vitamin E oil

Instructions:

In a small saucepan, heat the coconut oil and beeswax until just melted. Remove from heat and add the olive oil, castor oil, lanolin, and vitamin E oil. Using a whisk, combine all ingredients. Remove from heat, but continue to whisk as the mixture cools. Pour into a glass jar or container.
