Dollar Store Craft: Poinsettia Tree Christmas Decoration

November 8, 2010 by Susie Chadwick Leave a Comment

Here is an inexpensive Christmas decoration that just takes a few minutes to make. I made this in about 10 minutes using supplies from the dollar store. Final cost: $1.50. You could make this craft suitable for any season by using a different type of flowers.

You will need:
1 styrofoam cone
1 or 2 bunches of flowers (2/$1 at Dollar Tree)
Strong craft glue
Optional: paint to paint your cone a suitable background color (I wish I had done mine red first, because the white shows through.)
Puzzle to occupy kids…

First, remove the flowers and leaves from the stems. Each flower should have a plastic “cap” underneath it, holding the flower together. Be sure to leave that on. Cover the plastic tip with glue, and press into the styrofoam cone. Wait a few minutes for the glue to set. Continue to do this with flowers and leaves until the cone is completely covered. That’s it!
