This Christmas craft is not only kid friendly, but super easy to make and cost under $3.00.
Here’s what you need for both ornaments:
- 1 bag of pipe cleaners (make sure it has white, red & green colors) – (I bought mine at Walmart for $2.08, but you can sometimes find these at Dollar Stores also).
- Scissors
- Pencil
- String – Optional
Directions for making the Candy Cane Ornament:
First you take the red & white pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Then twist the pipe cleaners together making sure that the stripes look somewhat neatly spaced. Finally, bend the top into a hook.
Hang on tree as is or if you want to hang it up by a string, here is what you do. When you are first twisting the pipe cleaners together about 1 ½ -2” down, insert your piece of string and then continue to twist the cleaners together. When you are done, put a knot in the string and it’s ready to hang.
Directions for making the Wreath Ornament:
Take one full length green pipe cleaner and wrap it around a pencil, now slide it off the pencil. Take the two ends and twist together. To create the red berries on the wreath, take a red pipe cleaner and cut it into lengths of 2”. Now take the 2” cut piece of pipe cleaner and twist it on the green pipe cleaner in different areas.
To create the bow, take a white full length pipe cleaner and cut it into 4” lengths. Take the 4” cut piece of pipe cleaner and twist it once onto the top of the wreath and cross over the ends to resemble a bow.

Wow, my 3 year old would love to make these with me! I did see a bag of red, white, and green pipe cleaners at Dollar Tree. They were in the craft section.
