Yum. Dipped Oreos. These holiday treats are as good as they look, and even easier to make.
To make 45 dipped Oreo cookies you need:
1 package of Oreo cookies
2 12 ounce packages of chocolate or flavored chips – I used Ghiradelli brand mint and vanilla (white chocolate) chips
Melt the candy chips in a double boiler. Or, you can melt in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds. Dip the Oreos into the melted candy. I used a bamboo skewer stuck in the filling to hold the Oreos and a spatula to pour the candy over the top. Reheat your melted candy if it gets thick (that’s why my white chocolate-covered Oreos aren’t as pretty).
Lay the dipped Oreos to cool and harden on a sheet of wax paper (or your Silpat!). You can put them in the fridge to speed up this process.
We made dozens of mint-covered Oreos to give as Christmas gifts to our neighbors and friends. We used the phrase “Peace, Hope, Cookies” and decorated brown paper lunch bags by tracing cookie cutters for simple, but delicious neighbor gifts.
I figured the cost of this project out to be 16.66 cents per Oreo. These sell for $.75-$1.00 each at candy stores! You will save even more if you use store brand chocolate chips, but we really wanted the mint which we could only find in the more expensive Ghiradelli brand.
