Recently, Kohl's offered me the opportunity to review one of their Sleep Innovations 12″ Memory Foam Mattresses. I normally don't do product reviews, but this was an opportunity I didn't want to miss.
My husband and I have been struggling with finding a comfortable bed for a couple of years, so I was curious to see if a memory foam mattress would be the answer to our sleep issues. My husband likes a firm mattress, and I like one that's softer. Plus, I'm a bit like the Princess and the Pea. If my sleeping conditions aren't just right, I have a hard time falling (and staying) asleep!
The Sleep Innovations Mattress was delivered in a box by UPS and left on our doorstep. Since they're compressed to fit in the box, they can be ordered online and delivered by UPS like any other package. If you get it at a Kohl's store, the Queen mattress even comes in a box with wheels.
When we got the bed, I left the box indoors for 24 hours to warm up. I had read that assembling the bed when the box has been left out in the cold can result in an uncomfortably cold and hard night's sleep. The next day, we carried it up to our room. It was heavy, but I was able to do it with just the help of my 9-year-old son.
Opening the box and popping the seal is fun. Since the bed is compressed and vacuum sealed, it fits into a box. Once you break the seal, it expands. If you've got kids, make sure they are around when you set up the bed. My son helped me with the unwrapping process (as well as our cat, Sage). Definitely carry the box to wherever the bed will go before you unwrap it. Otherwise, it could be really difficult to move it once it expands. Plus, it's pretty heavy.
When I first laid down on the mattress, it felt really hard. I was seriously worried we had another mattress fail on our hands. However, I wanted to give it a fair shot and reseve judgment for later. The second night was much better. I not sure if that was because I was just getting used to it, or if it really did conform to your body shape and temperature the longer you were on it. Later, I learned that it can take a full 72 hours for the bed to warm up and fully soften. That could have been part of the issue.
A few days later, we got the Sleep Innovations Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper. This made a HUGE difference. If I was on the fence about the firmness of the mattress before, I was indifferent no longer. The Mattress Topper made the sleeping experience a little softer for me, and helped regulate our sleeping temperature as well. If the entire Sleep Innovations set isn't in your budget, I'd recommend starting with just the mattress topper.
Both my husband and I kept expecting to want to go back to the old mattress, but that never happened. We slept well EVERY SINGLE NIGHT that week. That hardly ever happens! The longer we slept on the Memory Foam Mattress, the more we liked it. After about a week, we decided to say goodbye to our old mattress. We just hauled it away yesterday.
What I Liked About the Sleep Innovations Memory Foam Mattress:
- It is quiet. No squeaky springs.
- You can't feel others moving around in the bed. My husband isn't much of a problem, but our two cats sleep with us and come and go during the night. We can't feel them walking on the bed with the Memory Foam mattress.
- Ease of ordering and delivery
Cons:
- It's definitely on the firm side. If you like a super-soft mattress, this may not be for you.
CYBER MONDAY DEAL:

Disclosure: Kohl's provided a complimentary mattress for me to review. I was not paid for this review, other than receiving the free product. All opinions are my own and unedited by the sponsor.

I just want to know how you feel when your husband moves. Actually, I think the cats move so quietly, so of course you can’t hear or feel them walking.
