Make a personal Valentine’s Day card with your kids by making hand print hearts and finger print hearts. These Valentine’s Day cards are perfect for sending to grandparents or other far away family members. You can use finger paints or ink. If you are using finger paint, I recommend cardstock instead of thinner construction paper.

Valentine’s Day Hand Print Craft
Make a homemade Valentine’s Day card extra special with hand printed or fingerprinted hearts. To make a hand print heart, stamp one hand at an angle on the paper with the fingers mostly closed. If you’re using finger paint, allow the first hand print to dry. Then stamp the other hand at an opposite angle to make the heart.
Finger print or thumb print hearts can be made with just one finger. Stamp your painted or inked fingertip at an angle. Then cover your finger with ink or paint again and stamp on the opposite angle to complete the heart.
Some suggested Valentine’s Day messages are “You hold my heart” or “Thumb-body loves you!”
An ink pad is a safer choice than finger paint for making baby hand prints. Make sure you have baby wipes out and ready to use. The hand print heart uses both hands. If you are making more than one Valentine’s Day card or craft, do one hand print on each, clean the hand, then do the other hand print on each card to finish the hand print hearts.
If you are doing this craft as a fun activity for your kids for Valentine’s Day, get out lots of ink colors and let them experiment! My preschooler had a great time making finger print hearts in every color and writing messages to his friends and family on the Valentine’s Day cards (some of which are just random alphabet stickers).
