Motivation! What Are Your Motivations for Getting Healthy?

Motivation is key when accomplishing any goal.  There are always reasons that any of us do anything.  It’s what drives us.  The harder it is to reach the goal, the more motivations and goals.

When it comes to losing weight and getting healthier, I have several short term motivations that keeps me going when it’s tough.  I also have several long term goals that motivate me to keep going and succeed.  Everyone is different and different things motivate different people.

Ex:  Weighing myself and counting pounds doesn’t motivate me.  I’m kind of neurotic and if I kept track of the pounds I lose, I would worry about it way too much.  So I’m focusing more on differences when I look in the mirror and when my clothing size goes down.  Other people need to keep track of the scale. It keeps them focused on their fitness goals.

Here are my personal goals and motivations:

Daily

  • The physical changes I feel such as lack of bloating and less digestive issues.  It feels great.
  • The emotional control I feel.  I control what goes in my body and how many calories I burn.  I’m the only one that can do it.
  • Counting calories when I work out.  I love the treadmill because it counts my miles, calories, and heart rate.  My goal is to burn 200 calories per mile.  That can be achieved by speed and incline.
  • Going to the gym.  Working out at home and using videos don’t work for me.  I get bored and it’s too easy to get distracted.  I like the gym atmosphere. I go to a really nice community center.  That facility and equipment is really nice.  Plus there are different people of all ages, shapes, and sizes.  I’m comfortable and that’s a great motivation.
  • Meeting a friend at the gym.  One of my closest friends has been working out for a year.  She goes 6 days a week in the mornings.  This works well for me because I’m already out of the house taking my kids to school.  So I just go right over and meet her. I don’t feel forced to do it but knowing that she will know if I’m not there helps me to go.

Long Term

  • I want to feel good, feel healthy, and take these excess pounds from my body.  I want my clothes to fit well again and I want to have energy and to feel strong.
  • I want to be a good example to my daughters.  I want to show them how to fuel and maintain their bodies. I want to have energy to keep up with them.
  • I want to help other achieve their fitness goals.  I like to help people improve their own lives.  That’s why I became a frugal living blogger.  This is just another aspect of helping others achieve happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
  • My work-out buddy and I want to run a 5K in the spring and we want to run the entire way.  Right now power walking is a challenge so I have my work cut out for me.

What are your motivations?  What gets you going and drives you to be a success?
