Fun for Kids: Ice Cream in a Bag

July 1, 2009 by Kimberly Danger 13 Comments

Homemade Ice Cream in a BagJuly is National Ice Cream month.  Now that’s an occasion I can give my full support!  That means that supermarkets everywhere have lots of it in ample supply – and are putting it on sale.  Then, see if you can combine those bargains with printable coupons here.  Ice cream also makes a fun DIY project for kids on a hot day. It’s really easy to make and doesn’t require any special equipment. Here’s how:

Ice Cream in a Bag

This is SOOO easy… and delicious! In a small Ziplock bag, put:
1/2 C. half and half (milk works too)
1 Tbps. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Insert that bag into a larger, one gallon Ziplock filled with ice and salt. Shake the bag for five minutes. Kids love that part!  Then, remove the smaller bag which should have turned into ice cream.

hi Starr, i just asked the same question here’s what i found..just in case you didn’t find this..
Half and Half is a dairy product consisting of half light cream and half milk.
Half and half has a fat content of between 10.5 percent and 12 percent. This compares with light cream, which contains anywhere from 16 percent to 29 percent butterfat, and whole milk, which has about 3.5 percent butterfat.
