Creating Clean Eating Spice Mixes

August 28, 2015 by Bekah 2 Comments

If you’re doing a program like 21 Day Fix or 21 Day Fix Extreme, spicing up your food makes a BIG impact on how much you’ll enjoy it.  And, when you enjoy what you’re eating – you’re much more likely to stick to the plan!  Here are three of the spice blends mentioned in the program:

Basic Clean Eating Spice Mixes

  • All-Purpose
  • Southwestern (tacos and chilis)
  • Mediterranean (Italian)

You can buy several basic low-cost spices at ALDI and even The Dollar Tree.  I bought a bunch for a $1 each at a local grocery outlet store.  I also bought these cute jars with attached lids for $1 each at the craft store.  I was able to mix up the spices in bulk so it’s easier when I make my recipes.  Each jar holds about a cup of seasoning.  I multiplied each recipe so they would fit in the jar.  I think they look fabulous!

All Purpose Seasoning

  • 4 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • 2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/4 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Southwestern Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander (cilantro)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp seat salt

Mediterranean Seasoning

  • 4 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 4 tsp dried onion
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

I didn’t have labels, so one of my best friends (who was with me at the time) and I decided to use some word bubbles stickers from my scrapbooking stash.  Because the colors are so different, it’s not hard to figure out which is which seasoning.  However it was fun to be a smartypants!

  • “You Need This!!” = Mediterranean Spice Blend
  • “I must be out of my mind!!!” = Southwestern Spice Blend
  • “You look Fabulous!!” = All-Purpose Spice Blend

I thought all of these reflect some of my feelings and hopes for my upcoming 21 Day Fix.

Here are some other ways preparing to make life my easier during the 21 Day Fix:

  • Creating a Personalized 21 Day Approved Foods Eating Chart
  • 16 Clean Eating Foods That Can Be Frozen
  • 21 Day Fix Menu Plan Ideas

I’m also going to make a spreadsheet for recipes and which colored containers they include.  That way it’s an easy reference when I cook and plan.

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that I think your all purpose seasoning you posted is wrong – shouldn’t it be garlic powder instead of garlic salt????

I loved your idea to include the containers in your recipes!
In my earlier efforts, I tried to figure out the portions for casseroles, etc… mixed food dishes. What a hopeless effort!
