DIY: How to Repair Broken and Cracked Makeup

February 23, 2012 by Kimberly Danger Leave a Comment

Last weekend, I discovered that my pressed powder had fallen apart while in my purse.  It was a fairly new compact, so I hated to think of how much would be wasted if I were to just throw it away.  Instead, I repaired it myself.  It’s so easy to do,  I’ll never throw away cracked and broken makeup again!  Here’s how:

What You’ll Need to Repair Broken Makeup

  • Broken makeup
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Ziptop plastic bag
  • Cheese spreader or similar utensil (a knife also works)
  • Clean cloth rag

Place the broken makeup inside the tiptop bag.  With the back of your cheese spreader, grind up what remains of the makeup.

Add drops of alcohol until the makeup or powder is the consistency of a thick paint or spackle.

Spread the makeup evenly in the container with your spreader/knife.

Pack the makeup down inside the compact with clean cloth rag and something flat (I used a glass).  The fabric you choose will determine the pattern indentation of the makeup and give it a finished look.

Wipe the edges of the compact clean and allow to dry overnight before using.
