Easing Into Clean Eating

August 10, 2015 by Bekah Leave a Comment

21 Day Fix Container Measurements

So I have my 21 Day Fix package and I tried Shakeology.  So far so good  (You can read why and how I’m starting the Beach Body program HERE). The plan is to ease into it by switching out some of my favorite non-clean eating foods with healthier options.  I’m also studying the container system because right now it’s a little overwhelming.  I honestly don’t have time to refer to my 21 Day Fix manual constantly so I’m making sure I clearly understand what goes in what container so that it feels natural.  I’m also going to write the measurements on the containers.  Right now they are labeled by food category.  However I’m a numbers person so I know for me personally, it will help to know the amounts and use them like measuring cups so I can make recipes.  The general rule is that if it fits, you can eat it.  That works really well if you like to snack just fruit or just vegetables.  I like soups, casseroles, and one-pot meals.  So this method will work for me.

Here they are:

  • Purple (Fruits):  1 cup
  • Green (Vegetables): 1 cup
  • Red (Proteins): 3/4 cup
  • Yellow (Carbs):  1/2 cup
  • Blue (Healthy Fats):  1/3 cup
  • Orange (Seeds and Dressings):  2 Tablespoons

When completing the 21 Day Fix, the amount of food you eat is based on your personal calorie calculations that are explained in the eating plan booklet.  My personal calculations come to 12 cups of food a day!  That is a lot of food!  When I first received my containers, I thought they looked small.  As you can see, they are not at all.

My hope is that by the time I start my personal 21 Day Fix after Labor Day, I will visually be able to figure out the serving sizes of what I usually eat and save my colored containers for recipe making.  I know myself and if it’s too tedious, I won’t keep up with it when life gets busy.  This needs to be a change in my eating habits, not a diet.
