Frugal Foreigner: Auto Rickshaw Ride

May 25, 2011 by Susie Chadwick 1 Comment

My husband always says, “there’s nothing like an auto ride in India.” And he’s right! A ride in an Indian autorickshaw is an experience you’ll never forget.  Join me and my family on a Sunday drive in Bangalore.

One ride will give you a glimpse of many aspects of Indian culture.  You’ll see the dusty streets, the trash-strewn fields, the jungle foilage, the lack of obedience to traffic rules, women balancing baskets on their heads, cows, stray dogs, Indian fashion, construction projects, tent houses, Hindu temples, and colorful buildings.  Everything but the Bangalore traffic, because I took these videos on a Sunday.

You’ll be safe from the dust and smells of the streets of India, but if you are easily motion-sick, I don’t recommend taking an auto – even by video.  It’s a very bumpy ride.

If you’re new to my Frugal Foreigner posts, read all about what we’re doing in India here! You can read all previous posts in the series here.
