Gift Ideas: Inexpensive Chocolate Treats

December 17, 2010 by Kimberly Danger Leave a Comment

Looking for an easy, inexpensive no-fail gift that everyone loves?   Sweet treats are always a hit, and chocolate is at the top of that list.  Here are some budget-friendly ideas that are sure to please a wide range of people on your list:

Plan Ahead
Many of you have heard me say it pays to be prepared and stock up on gifts BEFORE you need to give them.  These Hershey’s Pot of Gold Premium Collection gift boxes are available anywhere you shop, and are great to have on hand for an all-purpose last-minute gift.  They’re great to bring to a party as a hostess gift or give a piano teacher or basketball coach.  Or, you could include them in a gift basket along with other items like fresh fruit, a candle, a mug, or some gourmet coffee (available at the Dollar Spot at Target) to add a personal touch.

Holiday Spirit
Help friends and neighbors get into the holiday spirit with some homemade Baileys Irish Cream! This is a fun project to make at home as a girls’ night out (instructions and details can be found here).   You’ll have just as much fun making it as your friends and family will have when they receive it!  Jar gifts are popular and fun to make – and they’re really cute when you can adorn them with inexpensive ribbon and fabric as well.   This is one gift that’s sure to be a hit!

S’More Holiday Fun
This is a one-day sale only – Friday, December 17th you can get the Hershey’s Campfire Smores Maker for just $14 shipped (was $43) at Housewares Deals.  The Hershey’s S’mores maker comes with a campfire-inspired safety burner holder for canned fuel, ceramic base with faux ‘logs,’ safety burner, chrome-plated grill, snuffer, 4 plastic-handled stainless steel toasting forks, and 4 ceramic plates.I actually got to try this out at BlogHer 2010 in NYC this August.  It would a really fun gift to give a family with kids!   (Thanks, Bucktown Bargains!)

Stocking Stuffers
A stocking wouldn’t be complete without some sweet treats inside.   If your holiday budget is already shot, look for ways to save on stocking stuffers.  Head on over to our coupons.com page, where you’ll find lots of coupons for popular stocking-stuffer candy like Dove Chocolates, Wonka Candies, Lifesavers, Ghirardelli Squares, Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses and more. Pair those coupons with in-store sales, and you’ll get them for even less!

Chocolate Covered Oreos
These chocolate covered Oreos retail for $.75-$1.00 each at candy stores but Susie shares her instructions for making them at home for about $.16 each in this blog entry: Neighbor Gift Idea: Chocolate Covered Oreos.  Plus, she also shares a link to a valuable Facebook coupon to get a free box of Cakesters with the purchase of two packs of Oreos.
