Homemade Protein Bars

February 22, 2014 by Kimberly Danger 13 Comments

protein barsIf you’re trying to get in shape, you know that getting enough protein is important for muscle tone.  However, store-bought protein bars are expensive.  Here’s an easy homemade protein bar recipe that doesn’t require any baking.

Homemade Protein Bars

1/2 C. skim milk
1 C. peanut butter
3 Tbsp. honey
1 1/2 C. whey protein powder
2 C. oats (regular, not quick-cook)

On medium heat, combine milk, peanut butter and honey.  Stir until well-combined.  Remove from heat.  Stir in protein powder and oats.  Pat into a 9×13 cake pan.  Cool completely, then cut into rectangles.

It’s good to see a protein snack recipe that does not require me to run to the supermarket and search for special ingredients. The fact that they are no-bake makes them all the more appealing.

I’m really confused.. are we suppose to combine the ingredients in a skillet? And when you say “cool completely” do you mean in the fridge or just on the counter? Thanks

I followed this recipe exactly and these came out REALLY dry. I think the protein powder and oats need to be a smaller measurement to avoid these being so dry. I just used the last of my peanut butter, so I’ll probably be eating these out of a bowl, cause there’s not way these are going to STICK together.

The first time I made them they were dry. So this time I reduced the protein powder to one cup and doubled the milk (I used almond milk) then added a tablespoon of ground flax and tablespoon of chia seeds and got the right consistency!

I made these. I put them in a 9×9 pan… I would of liked them a little drier. I used almond milk instead of milk. I put dark chocolate on the top of half for my bf. I have to remember they are protein bars… I enjoy them alot!
