With no christmas decorations and warm weather in india, we needed something to make the holiday season seem more real. We didn't have many supplies, so I went with a classic construction paper chain. Construction paper is perfect for this craft. I used cardstock last year and the chain links kept popping open. Colored printer paper would also work well.
I cut the paper into strips width-wise. Maggie helped write a number on each one.
Then we glued them into rings in a chain. I don't recommend using a gluestick, even on construction paper, but we don't have any tape.Β Once our chain was finished, I realized we didn't have anywhere to hang it, so I stuck it on the curtain rod for now.

I made a calendar, with felt, ribbon, and sewed each individual pocket, and attached it to ribbon, complete with lace and christmas tree decorations.

I took 25 bathroom cups (the small ones) glued them bottom side down in the shape of a Christmas tree on a piece of cardboard. I put small pieces of candy, stickers, or those little shaped rubber bands in each one. Then I covered it with green glitter tissue paper. Wrote 1 – 25 on each. They get to punch a number open everyday. My boys LOVE it! and it was stuff I already had!

I wrap 24 Christmas books in Christmas wrapping paper and place in one huge basket. On December 1st we start the countdown by unwrapping one book per night. During this busy time of year, I am grateful for the tradition I started with my girls. I look forward to each night snuggling up on the couch reading my daughters a different Christmas story each night. (and daddy joins in every night too)
