Melting Pot Cheese Fondue Recipe

Melting Pot Cheese Fondue Recipe Copycat - YUM!

Looking for a fun family night in?  This Melting Pot Cheese Fondue Recipe is really easy to make, and a Fun Frugal Family Activity.  Well, relatively frugal.  The Gruyere cheese is a bit spendy (I found it for $12/lb. at Sam’s Club) but overall, this is both a meal and a family activity for less than $20.  That’s considerably less than taking the family out to eat just about any restaurant!

Melting Pot Cheese Fondue Recipe

1 tsp. minced garlic
1 C. dry white wine
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 C. Swiss cheese, shredded
2 C. Gruyere cheese, shredded
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
Pinch nutmeg

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, simmer the garlic, wine, and lemon juice.  Reduce the heat to medium-low, add the cheeses, and blend well until melted.  Add mustard and nutmeg.  Keep warm over Sterno with a fondue pot.

Dip assorted breads, meats, and veggies in the cheese.  We diced French bread, salami, and fresh mushrooms to eat with our fondue.

How much does this recipe make? Or for approximately how many people?

Agreed. I have cheese colored liquid and a large fluidish cheese blob. And no time to go out for anything else.

We just tried making it and same thing here. Cheese doesn’t mix in with the wine. Other recipes call for flour with the cheese before adding it into the wine. Looks like they missed that here. Disappointing. I will never try this recipe again.

I had the same problem. It tasted good, but the liquid from the wine didn’t mix as well with the cheese. Wonder if we reduced the wine if it would be better?

I had the same problem! I think it’s the lemon juice.

Same thing happened to me. The wine was not incorporating wth the cheese. I pumped up the fired to medium high and in 2 minutes, it all melted together ! I them lowere the temp. Waited a couple of minutes, then transferred it to my stereo. Awsome ! The best fondue I’ve ever had. Better than in Amsterdam !
