Muffin Tin Monday: Baby’s First Muffin Tin Meal

July 11, 2011 by Susie Chadwick 6 Comments

I guess I’m a little late introducing Dalton to Muffin Tin Meals – he’s nearly two.  But I thought I’d use it this week to get him to try new foods.  First I tried giving him carrot sticks with chicken nuggets and Smilies (“crispy mashed potatoes”).  He would only eat one carrot.

Then I tried serving him a variety of fruit in muffin cups, in hopes that he would remember how much he used to like bananas. (Cantaloupe, Mango, Bananas)

No such luck.  I even put some sprinkles on the banana slices and he picked off every single one.  But he did eat all the other fruit I served, and some of his sister’s apple pieces, too.

Even though it wasn’t very successful this time, muffin tin meals are perfect for toddlers.  The little portions are just his size, and food served in a muffin cup is begging to be dipped – and what kid doesn’t like dipping?

I think two is a perfect time to start with Muffin Tin Meals! I love that he ate the sprinkles.

I wish I had know about muffin tin lunches when my kids were younger, I think I could have introduced a lot more new foods. And at that age, they don’t expect an outlandish theme each time. This week I did dinosaurs. You can check it out here if you want:

I just discovered Muffin Tin Meals a few weeks ago and wish that I had started when my kids were toddlers. They are such a great way to get your kids eating more variety.

My daughter loves to dip stuff! I’m thinking I need to sneak in some veggies with some dipping sauce! When my youngest (4 months) is old enough to start eating chewable foods I plan on doing some little snacks in there too (like mashed banana, gerber puffs, etc).

I don’t think 2 is late to start at all! Sounds perfect to me – my girl would eat anything before that age anyway, it was a while afterward that she got fussy… We didn’t discover MTM until she was over three and a half – man, I wish we’d found it earlier!
