Grocery Savings Tip: Create a Holiday Menu Plan

December 17, 2010 by Kimberly Danger Leave a Comment

You’ve heard me say it before; planning ahead helps you save loads of money. During the holiday season that isn’t true for just gifts – it’s true for meals as well.  The weeks before Christmas and into New Year’s Eve are going to be BUSY with a capital B.  There may be nights you don’t have time to cook, or simply would rather spend your time doing other things.  Creating a meal plan to get you through the holidays will help you save time, money, and frustration.   It’s a real sanity-saver.

As you sit down to plan your meals, keep in mind that being flexible with your plan can help you save. Base your menu on what you have at home already as well as what’s on sale at the supermarket. Also, consider crock-pot meals and frozen dinners for busy nights (frozen meals may cost a bit more than the same thing from scratch – but they still cost a lot less than giving in to drive-through temptation).  If you are cooking, consider making a double batch and freeze another meal-size portion to eat later on.  Or, bring the extra meal to an elderly neighbor or friend with little kids.  What a great way to spread some holiday cheer!

Are you going to be hosting the holiday meal, or bringing a dish to share? Figure out what you’ll need for that and add it to your grocery list. Take advantage of hot holiday grocery bargains and buy extra to get you through the winter. Visit our coupon section to save even more on the products you’ll be buying already.
