Hibachi Chicken Without the Flaming Onion (or the Price!)

December 30, 2010 by Kimberly Danger 4 Comments

There is a new soy sauce coupon available that can land you Kikkoman Soy Sauce for only $.71 each at Target! I am beyond excited because I use soy sauce several times a week. I prefer the Low Sodium Kikkoman Soy Sauce.

Kikkoman Soy Sauce

Target price = $1.42

Use Buy One, Get One Free coupon

Final price = $.71 each WYB2

I use soy sauce as the base for my Teriyaki sauce when I make Hibachi Chicken:

Teriyaki sauce:

1/2 large sweet onion, chopped

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground ginger

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup vinegar

Cook all ingredients in a sauce pot until onions are caramelized. (I will start this in the morning and let it simmer all day for best results, but you can just let is simmer for about 20 minutes and be fine.)

Place chicken breast in skillet with oil and begin to cook. I put the whole breast in the skillet with a little water, oil, and pepper. Cover tightly with lid and cook until chicken is mostly cooked through.

Once chicken is mostly cooked through, cut into bite size pieces

Put chicken back into skillet and add your homemade Teriyaki sauce. Stir fry until sauce boils and becomes thicker.

You eat this with white rice or fried. For the fried rice recipe, check out our MommySavers Kitchen Chatter board.

Thanks, Totally Target!

I’m so excited to try this – I love Teriyaki but have never found a bottle sauce I like.

curious if you use white vinegar, rice, cider, etc. Seems lke white would be pretty sour, yet w/ the brown sugar, hard to say. Does sound delicious.

I use white vinegar because it is what I have on hand, when we move and re-buy I will use rice vinegar. I like my sauce sweet so I add a bit more brown sugar to it, but not everyone has my sweet tooth.

Tried it tonight – it was yummy, but I think I reduced it down a bit too much or had too much chicken (I used leftover roast chicken) I would’ve liked a little more sauce for my rice.
