I can hardly believe it's August already. The summer has gone by WAY too fast. While I don't send my own kids back to school until after Labor Day, I know some of you are gearing up for the first day of school very soon.
Last week, I had the pleasure to travel to Charlotte, NC to share some of my tips on sending kids back to school on a budget with TV viewers from all over the United States. It was a jam-packed day, including a 4:30 a.m. wakeup call (that's 3:30 a.m. my time) and interviews starting about 6:30 a.m. Eastern and running almost back-to-back for five hours straight. It certainly required breaking free from my normal “mom” routine for a couple of days!
This is all part of the More Mileage for Your money campaign sponsored by Uniroyal Tires. Just like Mommysavers, Uniroyal believes in helping families save money on everyday expenses so they can spend their time and finances according to their own priorities. I'm honored to be a part of it!
Some of the tips I shared included:
Instead of buying expensive character/branded notebooks, buy the plain loss-leaders and decorate them yourself with what you have around the house. Plus, it's a great activity to keep kids busy those last few days of summer vacation!
One way to get your kids excited about heading back to school is to throw a back to school party. Invite classmates they may not have seen over the summer, and have kids bring photos of their summer vacation. Give away school supplies as door prizes for “who grew the most” or “who traveled the farthest.” You can even decorate a cake with your school mascot or school colors!
