Chocolate Pretzel Merry Munch
This Chocolate Pretzel Popcorn is the perfect balance of salty crunch and sweet perfection. Real butter makes it creamy and rich, and holiday colors make it festive. That’s why it’s known around here as “Merry Munch.” Not only is it yummy, it’s easy to make.
I remember first tasting this coated popcorn recipe at a family gathering when I was a child. All of us (mainly second cousins) would reach into the huge Tupperware container and help ourselves. It didn’t last very long with lots of hungry kids around! My mom asked for the recipe and it’s been in the family ever since – over 30 years and counting!
Of course, Mom and Grandma always cooked with real butter. That’s why I always use it in my holiday baking and cooking. Nothing else is quite the same. I love making this for my own holiday gatherings where there are lots kids. I know that not only is it easy to make, everyone will love it.
What You’ll Need:
- 2 quarts popped corn (about one bag microwave popcorn)
- 2 C. (one 1-lb. bag) chocolate-covered pretzels holiday colors
- 1 C. Land O’Lakes butter (mine was on sale at Cub Foods but it is also available at Walmart)
- 1 1/3 C. white sugar
- 1/2 C. white corn syrup
- Holiday sprinkles (if desired)
Check out the Land O’Lakes Holiday Brochure for more holiday recipes and Christmas treats.
Melt the butter first, then add the corn syrup and sugar.
Boil slowly until the mixture turns golden brown (just a little bit darker than the photo below).
Meanwhile, spread out the popcorn/candy mixture on a large baking sheet. Remove the hulls or any unpopped kernels.
