With just three ingredients, it doesn't get much easier than this crock pot Hawaiian bbq chicken recipe. The Archer Farms Hawaiin-Style barbecue sauce from target already contains many of the spices that make this tasty such as mango and red pepper, so no added seasoning is necessary. If you feel like it, you can add onion and green pepper chunks.
If it's not zippy enough for your liking, try adding a little chipotle Chile Pepper (pictured here, also used in our Copycat Beecher's Macaroni & Cheese recipe).
3-Ingredient Crock Pot Hawaiian BBQ Chicken
- Archer Farms Hawaiian-Style Barbecue Sauce
- 4-6 boneless chicken breasts
- 1 20-oz. can pineapple chunks, drained
Spray your Crock Pot with nonstick cooking spray. Place chicken breasts on the bottom of the Crock Pot. Pour the entire bottle of barbecue sauce and can of pineapple chunks over the chicken breasts. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours or until chicken pulls apart and shreds easily.
Serve over rice.
Thanks for the inspiration, Six Sisters Stuff!

Archer Farms Hawaiian-Style Barbecue Sauce … I cant find it anywhere!!!! What can I substitute for it?
Kimberly Danger says
Target is the only store that carries it, Lisa – but any Hawaiian style barbecue sauce will work.
Priscilla Cooley says
We first that in Boise ID and fell in love, like every week end visit. But have never found the jarred sauce in FL or LA. Definitely checking target out….and i hate shopping there. lol
Juanita salinas says
What container do we use
Theresa L. says
I found Lawry’s Hawaiian marinade. Do you think that will work, or is it too thin?
Kimberly Danger says
Is it a barbecue-flavored sauce? If so, it may work. Otherwise, it is probably too different.
Manda says
TOO THIN. it is a great marinade. I think a honey bbq sauce would be better if you cannot find the archer farms brand. I have not tried our target yet, but am planning to.
Kristen says
Sounds yummy! Do you think you could make sandwiches with it?
I was thinking about serving it with buns at a party.
Kimberly Danger says
I’m sure you could, Kristen. Let me know how it turns out!
Linda says
I made this for dinner tonight! I added some jerk seasoning since my hubby and I like it spicy. Served on hamburger buns with pickles and extra bbq sauce. Soooo good and easy! Hubby had seconds and requested it again. I will eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
Kimberly Danger says
I’m glad you liked it, Linda! 🙂
Tiffany says
This looks great! I’m planning to make it at our Luau birthday party. How many does this recipe feed? I’m also thinking of putting it on the small King’s Hawaiian buns instead of rice.
Thanks!
Michael D says
This looks tasty going to try it tomorrow.
Jodi says
Has anyone tried to freeze the leftovers and make them for dinner at a later date?
Theresa says
Can you use frozen chicken or does this need to be thawed chicken?
Priscilla Cooley says
i use frozen chicken, do not add water
Katy says
Had a kick to it. Little spicy for my 5 and 3 year old. If I use just regular BBQ sauce and add honey that might work.
Priscilla Cooley says
Kraft BBQ sauce …the honey bbq sauce has the perfect amount of honey, not spicy
gtf says
I didn’t want to make a trip to Target just for barbecue sauce, so used Stubb’s Sweet Heat instead (found at my Kroger’s grocery store in Texas). The recipe tastes great with it and yes, spicy…which is what I expected. Kroger’s has their own brand of Hawaiian Barbecue sauce and I also spotted a Hawaiian marinade sauce, but chose the sauce I used because unlike those, Stubb’s does not contain corn syrup nor artificial ingredients.
Kimberly Danger says
That’s a great tip! I’m not sure if I’ve seen Stubb’s Sweet Heat where we live (MN) but I’ll look for it the next time I’m at the grocery store.
Chelsey says
I’m in Canada couldn’t find any of the suggested BBQ sauces. Simply used regular BBQ sauce (tony Roma’s) and thickened with a little cornstarch and cold water when it started to thin out in the crock pot
jessica says
I made this with regular BBQ sauce that I had stocked in my pantry (Sweet Baby Ray’s) and it was fantastic. So good! thanks for this easy recipe.
Kimberly Danger says
Sounds yummy!
Kayla says
Do I pour the pineapple juice in the crock pot, as well?
Kimberly Danger says
Yes – Everything goes in the crock pot.
Kari says
you state in your ingrediants to drain the juices so do you drain it or no?
jill says
What do you consider the BBQ in regards to 21 day fix?
Jill says
what container count do you use for 21 day fix?
Brooke says
Probably a dumb question but are you sure the BBQ sauce is fixed approved? Thanks
Brooke says
It sounds yummy and my kids love pineapple
Amy says
Do you have to count the BBQ sauce? I’m new to the fix world 🙂
Becky says
I am so confused, these are on the 21 day fix recipes but on several of the recipes the containers it equals are not included. That is why I came here, to find recipes that had the containers listed.
Nan says
I have not tried the recipe yet, but today, I found Sweet Baby Ray’s “new” Hawaiian Barbeque sauce at Walmart. I am going to try this recipe soon.
Pat says
Being diabetic I use only 1/2 of the Hawaiian barbecue sauce. Still very good! Not a rice fan I usually eat on chow mein noodles.
Brenda says
what is the serving size on these recipes
Teresa Fallis says
Are these questions still being answered?
How many oz of bbq sauce does one use in this recipe?
What if I strained most of the pineapple juice from the chunks, do I add more bbq sauce or run to the store and grab a small can of pineapple juice?
Thanks,
– T
Lauren says
What are the measurements? One red and one purple?
Regina says
I am attempting this with a honey BBQ sauce like what was mentioned in another comment, hope it turns out good I am excited to try.
Kim Danger says
Let us know what you think!
Denise says
What are the container counts??
Bekah says
Each container is a different color corresponding with a food category…fruit, vegetables, protein, etc. The containers are all different sizes…1 cup…1/2 cup…etc. It’s the Beach Body Clean Eating Plan. It’s about eating healthy foods and practicing portion control.
Kate says
How do I count this on the 21 day fix? What colors?
Crystal C says
I’ve made this several times, even good with boneless pork chops.
Brittany says
Hi, I have 2 problems when learning to cook these healthier meals and using my crockpot. Number 1, my chicken breasts always dry out in the crockpot even when cooking over low and come out bland though the liquid in the crockpot is flavorful. Also, when using yogurt to make a dish creamy, my yogurt separates. Any ideas? Thank you for the help!
Laura says
It would be nice to have the 21 Day Fix cup counts on this recipe.
Lindsay says
This looks delicious!! Gonna make it tomorrow. Could you please let us know what the container count is for this recipe?
Anna says
My guess would be that a serving (about a cup) would have 1 red, 1/2 purple, and 1 orange – has anyone else found something more accurate? Or does that sound correct? (I will have it over rice and add 1-2 yellow)
Rona says
I sliced a red onion , stir in at the end then serve .. The mixture heats up the onion but you still have some crunch, very delicious….
Tina Pellerito says
Could I use bone in thighs for this, and what would the adjustment be on the time?
Jackie Coryell says
Can someone please answer the question do you drain the chunk pineapple can or do you empty the entire can juice and all in the crock pot?
